Free tapes!

(Photo: a few random cassettes from my shelves. No, you can't have them)

Tattoos, t-shirts and just about every possible graphic representation of the cassette tape have been flourishing uncontrollably in the past few years, most notably among clueless hipsters — read: people who probably have never even owned a cassette player in the first place. If you or one of your friends happens to sport a tattoo of a fucking WINGED CASSETTE, I'll gladly offer to remove it with a flamethrower, free of charge.

This being said, to celebrate true cassette culture and reclaim it from fixie-riding, moustache-wearing fucktards, Kängnäve is giving away 3 very cool mixtapes to readers and lurkers. As in REAL mixtapes dubbed from vinyl and cassettes from my own collection, not fucking CDRs or downloadable soundfiles. Each one is unique, hand made with love and care, with thought and time put into it.

“How do I get one”, you may ask? Easy. Just mail me something. WHATEVER you want — love letter, art, photo, zine, dried flower, homemade bandana, cake, candy, beer, your shitty band's demo… feel free to be creative, send something nice or unusual, surprise me. The only request is that it has to be mailed the old school way (unless you live in the same city, thus we can arrange a meeting). Make sure you include a return address. Deadline is February 15th, 2012 (shipping date). The best three entries get one of the mixtapes in return. How cool is that? Here's my address — go ahead and have fun:

PS: Check out Thurston Moore's Mix Tape, The Art Of Cassette Culture book from a few years back. Nice, enthusiastic piece of work on the topic.
